Chapter History
In 1926, despite opposition, the founders of Grace and Hope Mission opened up a branch of GHM in Norfolk, Virginia. The first building was located at 602 E. Main Street where it served as a lighthouse to many sailors for over thirty years.
Their faith was severely tested during those first years. But God blessed us and, in 1929, the building at 602 E. Main Street was dedicated. For thirty-five years the mission stood as a lighthouse in that part of Norfolk. In 1961, when the city redeveloped the area, 1206 Granby Street became the new location for Grace and Hope Mission.
In 1970, prayer and progress, would lead us to a vacant lot at 2800 Lafayette Boulevard! On this property the Grace and Hope Mission was built.
Our first and primary goal is, and always, is, to preach and teach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We do this in tract form in our street meetings, in our regular scheduled meetings, and in visitation of the sick and the elderly in private homes, hospitals and nursing homes. The children and young people accompany us to a neighbor nursing home and they enjoy singing to the residents - And, the residents are thrilled with the visits of this younger, enthusiastic generation.
A major part of our ministry is to assist the needy in our community with food and clothing. The Bonner Foundation has helped us with grants to feed the hungry. Because we have membership in the Southeastern Virginia Food Bank, we are enabled to provide more food for more people. Clothing has been provided for us through Operation Blessing. This organization has helped us with food supplies and clothing for the community.
We schedule weekly programs for adults, young and children throughout the week.

Reports NORFOLK, VIRGINIA 2800 Lafayette Boulevard Barbara Luzzi, Superintendent At this writing we are looking forward to our Easter celebrations. Both the adult choir and the children will participate. How thankful we are for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible says that because He lives, we too shall live. When you read this report, Easter will be over but the message continues on. Frank D. Getty said, "The message of Easter cannot be written in the past tense. It is a message for today and the days to come. It is God's message which must re-echo through your lives." How true! This time of year renews our hope in all God has ahead. Out trust in Him should remain constant, strong and true because He is working out His best in our lives. Read Romans 8:28. All of us do not know what the future holds, but we do know who holds the future. We may in the coming days face illness, unemployment, etc., but God will be there for us. Let us trust Him and reach out to others in their time of need. God bless you!
