Chapter History
In 1934, our late founder and first president, Mamie E. Caskie and her staff were led of the Lord to begin a missionary enterprise in this great metropolis. God blessed the ministry of the first 'pioneer' missionaries and those of us who have succeeded them have witnessed and rejoice in the fruit of their labors.
For over thirty years our chapel was located in Boston's South End where opportunities for the services of the missionary were unlimited. A move from this area to our present location was necessitated by a citywide redevelopment program, which began in 1962. Our present location, 1900 Columbus Avenue, was opened in March 1968. This location by reason of its need has been consti tuted a 'mission field' by theologians and laypersons, alike, who tour the area and view it in prospective.
Following the precedent set at the mission's beginning, the emphasis of our program is based on the spiritual enlightenment and Christian development of those who meet and worship with us. Gospel services and Bible classes are held for adults and children to bring fulfillment to these purposes.
Supplementing this first and all-important program, weekly classes are held for the purpose of teaching music.
In spite of the fact that we live in an affluent society, there are many who know, and feel, the pangs of hunger and the miseries of frustration. These who 'hope for help' find 'help and hope' at Boston's Grace and Hope Mission.
We are indebted to many who support this ministry and our charitable programs. We are members of the Boston Food Bank and recipients of grants from Project Bread, United Way and the Mayor's Office. Working together we have helped to alleviate human suffering in this part of God's vineyard.

Reports BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS 1900 Columbus Avenue Estelle J. Clasing, Superintendent "0 Lord, how great is thy works ... " "How great is thy goodness." Psalm 31: 19 According to meteorologists, we have had a winter that has been extensive enough to be entered in the record books. Even though we are used to wintry weather, this one has been different. Snowstorms, blizzards and wind were far too frequent. We, with many New Englanders, welcome the springtime of the year. As the Psalmist penned, God is a great God as are His works. We are happy to report that He has in a very special way had His hand upon this ministry. Every service, held in our chapel has been blessed, just as He promised, with His hallowed presence. Because GHM was founded to preach the gospel as well as to help alleviate human suffering, an emergency food pantry continues to be an active part of our charitable program. We are thankful to be a member of the Boston Food Bank where food can be purchased at a discount. To those who financially support us in this endeavor, and to those who render themselves available to help serve their fellow men, we are grateful. We wish you all a blessed spring and summer. May you rejoice in the fact that God sent us a Savior, His unspeakable gift. And, at a time when the hearts of men and women are failing them for fear, remember he said, "Fear not, for I am with you." "In God" we, and the whole of his creation, "can trust." Not one word of His promises has ever failed. At this writing special programs are already being rehearsed for this month's special celebrations (Mother's Day, Father's Day and Children's Day). Martin Oliver, who has been a member of our church since his name was put on our Cradle Roll over twenty years ago, will be the speaker for the Children's Day Program. Pray for us as we continue to serve as His representatives in this part of New England. |
